As a B. Ed. student I taught for three months at Sir Oliver Mowat.
In Computer Science I taught lessons in Turing and Java programing. I created presentations that incorporated visual aids to illustrate abstract concepts such as arrays, flags and object oriented programming. I provided one-on-one support during class activities helping students with problem solving, debugging and general programing concepts. I assisted my associate teacher in creating various lessons – for example a sound unit where students manipulated audio files in Java using arrays.
In Communications Technology I have created engaging hands-on learning with units exploring claymation, creating a web portfolio, editing short documentaries and graphic design. I have tried to incorporate many different teaching strategies and tried to engage a variety of learning styles in the lesson planning. Geared activities towards group, pair and individual learning.
I have experimented using a blended approach with learning videos and hands-on activities with myself acting more as a learning resource. I planned my action research project around the results of this student centred approach.
