In 1995 while I was Program Director at CFRC-FM we installed an ISDN modem in our production studio. This allowed us to conduct interviews in Kingston and send broadcast quality audio to remotely located studios.
Many of the public broadcasters including the CBC, BBC and NPR made use of our studios to interview professors at Queen's University as well as the many artists, writers and musicians living in Kingston.
I operated the facilities for most of these programs. Many went "live to tape" such as Quirks and Quarks where there was an opportunity for the host to re-do questions. I also operated the studio during several interviews on a NPR call-in show which went live across the United States. And I operated the studios during many live-to-air interviews on CBC's Morningside, including an interview with the then Dean of Education which turned out to be the last live segment featured on the program!
